You need to install nano to use its functionality and all the resources it provides. Nano is usually enabled by default in most Linux distributions, but if it isn't, use the following commands to install it:

  • In the Debian/Ubuntu system, use the command:

$ sudo apt install nano

  • In the CentOS/Fedora system, use the command :

$ yum install nano

If there is a huge text with many lines, it isn't easy to scroll down the path and go to the last line in nano. Nano provides a perfect solution for it. The following guide will tell you how to go to the end of the file in nano.

There are two methods by which you can jump to last line with the following task:

Methode 1: Use the "Alt and /" Keyboard Shortcut to go to last line

The very first step is to open a document in the nano using the terminal command given below:

sudo nano xyz.txt

The cursor would point to the document's start when you open it with the nano editor. Use the "Alt and /" combination, and your cursor will shift to the end of the last line of your document.

Method 2: Using "Ctrl + W" and "Ctrl + V" to jump to end of file in nano

Open any file in the nano editor using the given command:

sudo nano xyz.txt

Click "Ctrl + W" after the file has been opened in the nano editor. This will evoke the Search option appearing at the end of the document.

After the Search option appears, press "Ctrl + V," and you'll find that your cursor has moved to the end of the last line of your document.

While dealing with large files, you can easily move to the end of the last line of the file. These approaches come in handy when you want to navigate to the end section of the file. Hence we can use any of the two methods shown in the document to navigate the last line of the file.
